We start the reconstruction of Rail Baltica between Białystok and Ełk

24.11.2021 ECM Group Polska S.A. and PKP PLK signed the contract for management and supervision of realization of the investment “Works on line E75 Białystok – Suwałki Trakiszki (country border), phase I Białystok – Ełk”. The scope covers management and supervision on design and civil works.

Few words about project

Railway line E75 is the element of the North Sea – Baltic Sea corridor, named Rail Baltica, assuming forming corridor connecting Helsinki through Tallin, Riga, Kowno with Warsaw. The project is priority for EU with big political and strategic function because it will form the only railway connection between Baltic countries with Poland and other EU countries – width of the rail 1435 mm.

The rail line E75 is covered with European Agreement about Main International Rail Roads (AGG).

Thanks to investment realization the time of travel in international transport between Białystok and Ełk will be shorten  and capacity of the line will increase what shall increase the availability of the rail transport. During stops and on the stations the static and dynamic systems of information will be implemented.

The investment will have the positive impact on the safety and lower the negative impact on the environment.

The finish of the investment is planned in 2023.

Aims of the project:

  • improving of the technical parameters of the line through increasing max speed of passenger trains to 160 km/h and transport trains to 120 km/h and increasing axle load to 221 kN/axle
  • liquidation of infrastructure narrow points i.e. limits in the length of trains and acceptable axle load
  • improvement of safety through increasing efficiency of traffic control and building of viaducts
  • shortening of the traveling time, improvement of the lines capacity and improvement of safety between Warsaw and Trakiszki (border with Lithuania)

Scope of works:

  • rebuilding of the train stations
  • rebuilding of the train bridges and building of viaducts
  • rebuilding of platforms
  • harmonization of the height of passenger platforms
  • adjusting length and width of platforms to the requirements of interoperability
  • adjusting of platforms for disables
  • small architecture elements and information tools
  • rebuilding of track layouts, surfaces, subgrades with dehydration system
  • modernization and construction of catenary, power system, power engineering
  • liquidation of collisions
  • construction of modern computer railway managing system
  • -construction of Local Control System (LCS) in Ełk with installation of the system ETCS level 2
  • rebuilding of the srk equipment and line stoppage – according to EU regulations
  • rebuilding and construction of the new communication systems, wired and radio connectivity
  • implementation of the modern system detecting malfunctions (DSAT)
