Investor Supervision over the Expansion of the Maritime Container Terminal

January 7, 2024

On April 16, 2014, the management of the Gdańsk Seaport entrusted the investor supervision for the expansion of the intermodal container terminal in the Szczecin Quay area in the Port of Gdańsk to a consortium of companies ECM Group Polska S.A. and Portico Project Management Sp. z o.o.

The project for the expansion of the intermodal container terminal in the Szczecin Quay area in the Port of Gdańsk was initiated with the aim of improving the technology and quality of service of one of the port’s intermodal transport links, which is the container terminal located in the inner part of the Port of Gdańsk.

The objective of the project is also to balance all the functional tasks of the terminal, i.e., the storage and handling capacity of the area adjacent to the quay with the loading capacity of the quay.

As part of the investment, the storage area of the terminal will be increased, the traffic and parking layout will be improved, and the water and sewage management of the investment area will be simultaneously organized.

The project will also include improvements in the supply of utilities, lighting of the area, and its fencing.

As a consequence, this will lead to improved conditions for servicing road-maritime, rail-road-maritime, and rail-maritime transport in terms of unit time of service.

Ultimately, the modernization program of the container terminal envisages achieving a handling capacity of about 100,000 TEUs (i.e., 20-foot containers) per year.

The investment covers an area of nearly 4 hectares (3.71 ha), of which 2.57 ha comprised the reconstruction of the container storage yard, while the remaining 1.14 ha involved the reconstruction of the terminal’s external and internal traffic layout.
