The National Museum in Krakow, under the chairmanship of Prof. Waldemar Baraniewski, was honored with two awards at the Museum Event of the Year 2013 Contest: the SYBILLA 2013 in the “Investments” category and the Grand Prix, also known as the “Award among the awarded.”
The jury awarded the SYBILLA 2013 and the Grand Prix for the revitalization project of the National Museum in Krakow. Prof. Waldemar Baraniewski, during the award ceremony at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów on May 14, 2014, stated that the jury appreciated the National Museum in Krakow for its “innovative and modern approach to thinking about how money can be transformed into values.” He expressed immense admiration for the exhibition at the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum, calling it a gem. The Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum, which had been inaccessible to the public for 70 years, was reopened in June 2013. Last year, two more branches of the MNK were made available: the renovated Karol Szymanowski Museum in the “Atma” villa in Zakopane in May, and a completely new branch – the European Culture Centre EUROPEUM – in September.
– I am pleased that the Jury recognized our efforts in 2013 – the 135th anniversary of our Museum – for completing these three investment projects, as well as honoring us for the long-term project started in 2007 to improve the infrastructure of our entire Museum,” says Zofia Gołubiew, Director of the National Museum in Krakow. “This was possible thanks to the arrival of European funds and the great work of the entire MNK team. I am particularly satisfied because it was also my goal since I became the director of the Museum. As I was no longer involved in creating exhibitions and research work, I wanted the MNK staff to have decent working conditions and the audience to have a comfortable visiting experience. From 2007 to 2013, we renovated all the Museum’s branches with their entire infrastructure. An additional and important result of this project for me is the care for greenery and public space. All our branches have well-maintained gardens or courtyards, which we make available to the public.
The SYBILLA Museum Event of the Year Contest, announced by the Minister of Culture since 1980, is the most important forum for promotion and exchange of experiences for museum professionals from all over Poland. Among the goals of the contest are: the selection of the most outstanding achievements in all areas of museum activity, the dissemination of the best forms and methods of museum work, and the expression of appreciation for the authors and implementers of the best museum accomplishments.
The GRAND PRIX SYBILLA 2013 and SYBILLA 2013 in the “Investments” category were received by Leszek Bednarz – Deputy Director for Technical Affairs of the National Museum in Krakow from Minister Małgorzata Omilanowska, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
On May 14, 2014, the MNK was honored with another award. Supervised by ECM Group Poland S.A., the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum, a branch of the National Museum in Krakow, as a result of the “European Center of Polish Numismatics” project, ranked fourth in this year’s edition of the Historical Event of the Year Plebiscite. The ceremonial Gala of award presentation took place at the Palace on the Isle in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw.
